I was introduced to this book by my friend, coach and mentor Brian Gallagher. It was one of the first “self help” books I ever read. It provided a new perspective and purpose in my life with the idea of always providing more in value than I ever expected to receive in return. It is the basis for the Neupttech mantra of helping you help others.

We only have so many rides around the sun in our lifetime. This book opened my eyes to how productive I can be and how many more experiences and people I can exchange value with by maximizing my “attention units” in work and in life. It is a must for the business owner who is always stuck in their “whirlwind” and will provide the basis for establishing the work/life balance you have always dreamed of having.

”When Breath Becomes Air”

This book hit me differently than all of the others on my “must read” list. It had a harshly realistic but empathetic message about the important things in life. It is a true story that was written from the perspective of the patient - physician interaction by an amazingly talented neurosurgeon who was dying of cancer. As a healthcare provider, you will never see a patient or a family member the same after reading this book.

"The 4 Disciplines of Execution"

I was introduced to 4DX by Ben Pakulsky via a Business Made Simple with Donald Miller podcast in early 2017. I am forever grateful to Ben and now Chris McChesney because it was one of the pillars that changes everything for me in my business and in my life. Once I learned that execution is based on simplicity and transparency, my world was never the same.

I was introduced to Darren Hardy’s “Darren Daily” podcast by my friend and colleague Lisa Chase. This lead to reading this book and taking my first Business Master Class with him. I can honestly say after just a small amount of time in the “Hardy Club” I no longer see any limits to my business and personal growth. Instead of what I thought was an optimistic 2-3x in growth of my businesses, I now know that 10-20x is not only attainable but will be achieved in the next 5 years. 

As a healthcare provider, my strength was never in sales or marketing, as most colleagues can relate.  This book takes a scientific (via psychology) perspective on why people choose to invest in products or services.  For example, the “Red Shoe Effect” says if you can have a differentiator in your practice (wearing red shoes to a black tie affair) then your public will see you as more of a disrupter in your field and as an expert that attracts them to you. For me, it started with the NEUBIE.

I first met Lew more than a decade ago when he was injured playing football at East Lake High School while being coached by my best friend Bob Hudson (who wrote the forward to this book).  I had the opportunity to collaborate with him again (NEUBIE) after he had won NCAA strength coach of the year as the head of S&C at Georgia Tech Football. Lew has become an inspirational legend all over the world through his messages in social media and lectures. 

I've said many times that I gained more knowledge in clinical treatment techniques from Garrett in a just few days of learning the Neufit Method than I had in the previous 10 years of clinical ed combined. Being introduced to Garrett and the NEUBIE changed my practice and forever enhanced the profession that I love - physical therapy.  This book outlines the Neufit Method and is the catalyst that inspired the formation of NeuPT Tech and our mission to help thousands of Physical Therapists advance our profession. 

If you've ever quit or thought of quitting anything that meant a lot to you, then this book is a must read. After learning about the unfathomable challenges David Goggins had to overcome in his life - I now believe there is nothing I cannot accomplish if I want it badly enough.  My good friend and mentor Brian Gallagher once said that “everyone wants a work/life balance, but not everyone is willing to do the ‘work’ part first.” This book is the basis for my “Day One or One Day” challenge to myself and others.

Angie and Joe McGilvrey are one of the earliest adopters of the NEUBIE and their clinic Apex Physical Therapy in Ft. Meyers, FL is one of the most innovative practices anywhere in the US. They exude the philosophy of “1% better every day.” This book is a touching story about never giving up with “PT the Dog” and the care they bring into their practice every day. It’s also a great book for your reception area with proceeds going to an animal shelter near and dear to the McGilverys.

If you're a private practice owner who wants to create a business and continue to grow in value instead of just creating a job for yourself - this is the book for you. It enlightened me to the fact that every business (including my PT clinic) must be looked upon as a product and not a service. I now realize my product is utilizing innovative technology to provide results for patients that far exceeds industry standards. We are the “Apple Store” of PT, not a Radio Shack. This book taught me that every single detail matters if you want to produce a world class customer experience. Based on the teachings of The Disney Institute, it exemplifies the importance of identifying your businesses "quality standards" in order to deliver systems for your cast, setting and processes.

Matthew is a foremost authority on Heart Rate Variability testing in a clinical environment.  We've collaborated to bring the most useful, up to date training and tech to the medical profession. HRV should be a “vital sign” we assess with every patient who walks through our door seeking help. Matthew clearly outlines the why and how we can better look into the autonomic nervous system health of our patients to get an idea of what is wrong with their body’s operating system and be more apt to fix it.
